Frequently Asked Questions
They're daily and weekly amounts of alcohol that health bodies use to define lower-risk use (e.g. grams per day and per week). DrinkAware lets you use preset guidelines for your profile or set your own. Staying under these doesn't mean zero risk, but it supports better health.
It’s DrinkAware’s camera-based way to log a drink faster: you take a photo, the app suggests details (such as name, strength, and size), and you confirm before anything is saved to your diary. How often you can use it may depend on tokens or your subscription — the app shows the current rules. Your diary stays on your device; using recognition involves short-lived processing as described in our Privacy Policy for iOS and Android.
A standard portion is a fixed amount of alcohol (e.g. 10g or 14g, depending on region). You can configure the size in Settings. The app uses it to show consumption in portions and to compare with your limits.
BAC calculations are estimates based on the Widmark formula using your sex, weight, and drinking pattern. They provide a useful guide but are not precise enough to determine legal fitness to drive. Many factors affect actual BAC including food intake, metabolism, and individual variation. Always err on the side of caution.
Your drink diary and profile stay on your device. On iOS, iCloud sync keeps that data across your own Apple devices only. Optional app features use secure online processing as described in our Privacy Policy.
Open Settings in the app and look for the risk limits or guidelines section. You can choose a preset (e.g. based on health guidelines for your profile) or enter your own daily and weekly limits. You can also set a "binge" or session limit.
Yes. When adding a drink, you can change the date and time to any point in the past. This helps keep your history accurate even if you forgot to log in the moment.
Yes, for what matters most: your drink entries, profile, and everyday tracking data stay on your device (and on iOS sync via your iCloud between your own devices). Optional features may use short-lived secure processing when you use them. Firebase and AdMob handle anonymous analytics, crash reporting, and ads for non‑premium users—see our Privacy Policy for iOS or Android.
DrinkAware is completely free. If you'd like to support development, you can tip in the app. The developer promises to spend it responsibly.
