Your privacy matters: Your drink diary, profile, and settings stay on your Android device—we don’t receive that data as a browsable database. If you enable Health Connect, the app writes Nutrition data only, as described below. Optional smart drink recognition sends a photo securely when you use it, so we can suggest a drink to log. The app also uses Google AdMob and Firebase for ads, analytics, and crash reporting as described below.

Data we collect
We don’t collect your drink diary, profile, health data, or settings as data stored on our own systems for ordinary tracking—they stay on your device. When you use optional online features (such as smart drink recognition or in-app purchases), limited information is processed over secure connections so those features can work. Third-party services in the app may collect additional technical data as described below.
Data stored on your device
The app stores data locally on your Android device, including:
- Your profile (e.g. sex, weight) and settings
- Drink entries (what you drank, when, amount and strength)
- Your risk limits and any drinking targets you set
- Health Connect data (if enabled): nutrition/calorie data synced to Google Health Connect
This on-device data powers tracking, statistics, low-risk limits, sober streaks, and Health Connect integration. Those core features do not send your diary or profile to us.
Health Connect
If you enable Health Connect integration, the app uses the following Health Connect data type:
- Write Nutrition — When you log a drink, the app writes a Nutrition record containing the drink's calorie (energy) value, name, and timestamp.
- Delete Nutrition — The app can delete its own Nutrition records from Health Connect when you delete a drink, disable the integration, or request data removal.
This data stays in your Health Connect storage on your device. The app does not access any other Health Connect data types (such as heart rate, steps, sleep, or exercise).
Use of Health Connect data is limited to providing the app's core functionality (syncing alcohol calorie data to Health Connect). Health Connect data accessed by this app is not sold to third parties, not used for advertising or marketing, and not shared with third parties. You can revoke the app's access at any time through Health Connect settings.
For more information, see Google's Health Connect terms and privacy.
Analytics and crash reporting
DrinkAware uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google. Firebase Analytics collects anonymous usage data such as app opens, session duration, and general interaction patterns. Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports, including device model, OS version, and app state at the time of a crash. This data helps us improve app stability and understand how the app is used. It does not include your personal drink data, profile, or health information. You can learn more in Firebase's Privacy Policy.
Advertising
DrinkAware is free to use and supported by ads served through Google AdMob. Ads are shown to non-premium users. Google AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and ad interaction data. This data is collected and processed by Google, not by us. You can learn more in Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Premium subscribers can remove all ads through an in-app subscription. In-app purchases are processed by Google Play.
Deleting your data
Your drink entries, profile, settings, and statistics are stored on your device. You can remove them at any time using one of the following methods:
- Uninstall the app — removing DrinkAware from your device deletes all app data permanently.
- Clear app data — go to Android Settings → Apps → DrinkAware → Storage → Clear data. This removes all drink entries, profile, and settings.
- Contact us — you can email drinkaware@softaware.fi for help. We’ll guide you through local deletion and explain what we can assist with for optional online features.
Local data: Uninstalling or clearing app data removes your diary, profile, settings, limits, targets, and statistics from your phone immediately. Analytics, crash, and ad-related data held by Google follows Google’s retention policies.
Third-party data: Data collected by Firebase (analytics, crash reports) and Google AdMob (ad interactions) is processed by Google under their respective privacy policies. To manage or delete data held by Google, visit your Google Account privacy settings.
